Tougher Than Leather is the fourth album by Run-DMC It was released in 1988 and belongs to the genre of hip-hop .

Charts and reception

Tougher Than Leather peaked at number 9 on Billboard's album charts .

The reviews on Tougher Than Leather were mixed. The music magazine Rolling Stone awarded three out of five possible stars and came to the following conclusion: "Thematically and musically, Run-DMC are starting to repeat themselves." The music database Allmusic has the album with four out of five stars, including: " Tougher Than Leather isn't as strong as the first three Run-DMC albums, but it's one of the best rap releases of 1988." 

The New York Times took the appearance of Tougher Than Leather as an opportunity to publish an article on May 16, 1988 entitled "It's Official: Rap Music Is in the Mainstream".

Trivia

Parallel to the album Tougher Than Leather , a film of the same name was released (German title: Mad Dogs - In the shadow of violence ). As an actor , among others, Run-DMC and the stepped Beastie Boys on, director and screenwriter was Rick Rubin. In the film database IMDb , Mad Dogs - In the Shadow of Violence is described as a cross between a blaxploitation movie and a spaghetti western ; the pretty bad rating: 4.6 out of 10 points.
