Tounfafi (Madaoua)

Tounfafi (also: Toumfafi ) is a village in the municipality of Madaoua in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional local chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located around two and a half kilometers southeast of the city center of Madaoua, which belongs to the Madaoua department of the same name in the Tahoua region. It is in the Tarka Valley . The Hausa word Tounfafi means Oscher ( Calotropis procera ).

At the 2012 census, Tounfafi had 9,530 inhabitants who lived in 1268 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 5,154 in 846 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,668 in 606 households.

Tounfafi is on National Road 1 , the country's most important trunk road. There is an important cattle market in the village. At the beginning of the 20th century, this was one of the small markets in the region that was approved by the French colonial administration of the time .
