The 2nd stage of the Tour de France 2011 on July 3rd was a team time trial over 23 km, which led around Les Essarts . There were two split times at kilometer 9 and 16.5. All 198 registered drivers started.

Race course

The team of Alberto Contador , Saxo Bank SunGard from Denmark, started because of his mishap the previous day as the last-placed team first. It reached an hourly average of 54.6 km / h, which was soon surpassed by the Rabobank Cycling Team with 55.2 km / h. Then the dominance of the US teams became apparent when the Garmin-Cervélo team led by Thor Hushovd reached a new peak time of 55.6 km / h, which from then on should no longer be undercut. This resulted in a 28-second lead over Contador's team. Hushovd was able to win the yellow jersey ahead of his team-mate David Millar . Behind them were the BMC Racing Team around Cadel Evans , the British Sky ProCycling Team with Bradley Wiggins and the Luxembourgish Team Leopard Trek around Andy Schleck , each four seconds behind. HTC-Highroad with Tony Marin lost five seconds and the RadioShack team with Andreas Klöden lost ten seconds.
