The 21st and final stage of the 2011 Tour de France on July 24th led over 95 kilometers from Créteil to Paris on the circuit of the Champs-Élysées . The intermediate sprint was also carried out there. As on the previous day, 167 of the 198 registered drivers started.

Race course

After the inauguration of a stele in honor of Laurent Fignon and a minute's silence for the victims of the double attack in Norway , the last stage began as usual at a slow pace in order to have time for photo sessions. The wearer of the yellow jersey , Cadel Evans , presented himself with his BMC Racing Team and the other jersey wearers; the obligatory champagne was also served again. The route also passed the new headquarters of the LCL , the main sponsor of the tour. A little later, Jérémy Roy was named the most combative driver of the tour.

With the entry into the circuit at Place de la Concorde , the pace of the race increased, and the BMC team showed up again. Juan Antonio Flecha was the first attacker. Other drivers followed, including Thomas Voeckler and David Moncoutié , but they were all caught up again. Another attack came by Rui Costa , followed by Sylvain Chavanel , but these two were caught again shortly afterwards. Ben Swift was the first to stand out more clearly. He was joined by Sérgio Paulinho , Kristijan Koren , Christophe Riblon , Roy and Lars Bak . Koren won the intermediate sprint that was carried out shortly afterwards, while Mark Cavendish took seventh place behind the group . The group could not drive out onto the field for more than 40 seconds. Carlos Barredo fell, but this was without consequences.

After the last round was initiated and the field got closer to the outliers, this attacked from the field. In the lead group, Swift and Bak broke away from their four companions, but were also caught by the field two kilometers from the finish after them and Barredo. Thor Hushovd then led the field for the Garmin-Cervélo team and Philippe Gilbert for Omega Pharma-Lotto . Matthew Goss and Mark Renshaw started the sprint for Cavendish, who won it against Edvald Boasson Hagen and André Greipel .
