The Trainkaserne Magdeburg is a former listed barracks in Magdeburg 's Altstadt district in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local monument register it has been listed as a monument since March 17, 1999 under registration number 094 70955 .

General

The train barracks comprised the buildings at Am Buckauer Tor 2, Carl-Miller-Straße 6, Hallische Straße 3 and Sternstraße 12-17. The building at Am Buckauer Tor 2 is also listed as part of the Am Buckauer Tor street . When viewed together with other military functional buildings and barracks, this is an important testimony to Magdeburg's city history with regard to the Prussian fortress and garrison era

Parts of the former barracks are used today by the Magdeburg Police Department (formerly the Police Department Saxony-Anhalt North ), the Technical Police Office, the German Armed Forces and the Magdeburg Armed Forces Career Center.

The barracks with Trainhof and foot artillery barracks were built from 1884 to 1887 according to plans by the Prussian construction officer von Zychlinski. It was obtained in 1887 for the Magdeburg Train Battalion No. 4. The construction costs amounted to 560,456 Reichsmarks , of which the main house (House 4) alone cost 227,050. In addition to the main building, the barracks complex included a NCO's house with six apartments for married NCOs, two horse stables with a hospital stables, a fittings forge, a small wagon shed and an entrance building. There were also two riding tracks and an army equipment shed on the barracks site. The military functional complex was built on the southern edge of the Wilhelminian city ​​expansion area. The barracks were used for military purposes until the end of the First World War . From 1920 it was a post office depot and parts of the site were used as police barracks from 1933. During the Second World War , a bunker was built in the inner courtyard. After 1945 the office for trade and supply was located on the former barracks site. The People's Police of the GDR uses the barracks from the 1949th Between 1949 and 1990, various garages and a washing area were built through conversions and extensions.

The team and functional buildings are flat-roofed brick shells made of yellow bricks with red dividing elements. The style is based on the Italian palazzo architecture of the early Renaissance .

House 1 and 2

Houses 1 and 2, today Sternstrasse 12, are the former foot artillery buildings with their crew quarters.

House 4

House 4, today Hallische Strasse 3, was the main building of the barracks and the former team residence. The four-storey building on Hallische Strasse is divided into 24 axes , with the outer 3 axes and the middle 6 axes being preferred. The central staircase is located in the six-axis middle section and two side staircases in the three-axis sections. The stairwells are massive with flat cross-vaulted yokes and capped ceilings as well as straight granite staircases with two flights of stairs with intermediate landings and wrought iron railings. The building has a complete basement and has a floor area of ​​1115.4 m². The building housed 209 men and two officers' apartments. A holding cell was also in the building.

House 5

House 5 adjoins House 4 to the south and was the NCO's dormitory. It is a three-storey clinker brick building that is divided into 7 axes with two two-axis side projections . The centrally located staircase is a two-flight granite staircase.

House 6 and 7

Houses 6 and 7 are the former horse stables. The two buildings are to the west and east of the riding and parade ground . It is a one and a half storey clinker brick building.

Infirmary

Trainhof and Traindepot

The former Trainhof with the Traindepot is located between the streets Am Buckauer Tor and Carl-Miller-Straße and was built around 1890. All buildings are two-story yellow brick buildings with a flat roof .

The former barracks is located between today's streets Hallische Strasse in the north, Carl-Miller-Strasse in the south and Sternstrasse in the east. There is a track system in the west.
