Trans Family is a documentary from the year 2005 by Sabine Bernardi on the subject of transsexuality .

action

The film accompanies the two transsexual men Louis and Carsten, who were both born women.

Louis has lived with his girlfriend Christina for 17 years. When they met, he was still a woman. The film tells the last stages of this transformation, the fight with the authorities and the couple's civil wedding.

Carsten and his friend Ralf are moving into their joint house and are busy with renovation work. As a civil servant, he played with open cards during his gender reassignment in his department. He talks about his fears about the reaction of his colleagues and how his situation has changed.

The befriended protagonists also share their experiences with penile prostheses and the removal of their breasts in front of the camera. The tone of their conversation remains humorous, almost flippant, which eliminates the problem of transsexuality.

Reviews

“With consistent style and dramatic tension, the film takes us into a strange world and lets us get very close to the protagonists. A documentary that tells the story simply and sensitively and convinces with the continuous optimism of the people it is about. "

- Jury of the BMW Short Film Award

"A refreshingly unpretentious and often humorous film about Louis and Carsten - two men who were born as 'organic women'."
