The Transports de Martigny et Régions ( TMR ) are a transport company in the canton of Valais in Switzerland . It operates the Mont-Blanc Express and the Saint-Bernard Express .
Companies
The Transports de Martigny et Régions were created retrospectively on January 1, 2000 from the merger of the railway companies Martigny – Châtelard (MC) and Martigny – Orsières (MO). The railway lines of the Martigny-Châtelard-Bahn and the Martigny-Orsières-Bahn differ greatly from one another; are therefore also operationally separated under the Transports de Martigny et Régions and have no common rolling stock because, among other things, they do not have the same gauge.
Transports de Martigny et Régions have held a 30% stake in the Regionalps subsidiary since 2003 , together with the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Local trains of the SBB and the standard gauge trains of the Transports de Martigny et Régions or the former Martigny-Orsières-Bahn operate under the Regionalps in Valais.
The company used to operate truck freight transport with its own trucks to remote towns. Today the company operates several bus routes for tourism and over the St-Bernhard. The name of this subsidiary is: Octodure & Orsières Transports.
Rail operations
The route network of the Transports de Martigny et Régions measures a total of 43.81 km and is divided into two sub-networks due to different track widths, which are served by two transport lines.
Mont-Blanc Express
The Martigny-Châtelard-Bahn (MC), also Mont-Blanc Express , is a narrow-gauge railway with rack and pinion sections and runs from Martigny via Salvan VS , Marécottes , Finhaut , Vernayaz in the Vallée du Trient up to Le Châtelard VS and was electrified in 1906 Route opened. Unusually for Switzerland, the power supply (now only for partial sections) is provided via a separate power rail next to the rails. From Châtelard, the French State Railways (SNCF) continue to operate the route via Chamonix to Saint-Gervais .
Saint-Bernard Express
The Martigny-Orsières Railway (MO), also known as the Saint-Bernard Express , is a standard-gauge railway from Martigny via Sembrancher to Orsières with a branch line from Sembrancher to Le Châble . The line from Martigny to Orsières was opened in 1910 , the branch line to Le Châble was opened in 1953 . At first, the transport of goods for the construction of a power station for aluminum production dominated (planning never carried out from 1856). Tourism with ski trains has been booming since the 1970s.
Rolling stock
Since the two railway lines of the Transports de Martigny et Régions differ in gauge, there is no common rolling stock. The majority of the active rolling stock comes from before the merger to form Transports de Martigny et Régions in 2000 and is listed in the relevant articles.
The Transports de Martigny et Régions were the first to acquire new vehicles for the railway lines of the former Martigny-Orsières-Bahn, which have now been transferred to the Regionalps:
- TMR RABe 527 511–513 (2002) “NINA” today RABe 525 039–041
Further new acquisitions only concern the narrow-gauge and standard-gauge infrastructure (construction service):
- "Ant" Tm 237 554 (prototype from 1995, bought in 2005), standard gauge
- Beh 4/8 71–72 (2011) built by Stadler Rail , correspond to the Z851 to 856 of the SNCF, but with additional gear drive, TSI no .: 90 85 838 0871-6 and 90 85 838 0872-4
