Transport packaging
Transport packaging or shipping packaging is packaging that facilitates the transport of goods, protects the goods from damage during transport or is used for reasons of safety during transport.

Transport packaging should protect the goods and cause the lowest possible costs. Important aspects are the handling of the packaging as well as the packaged goods and their disposal, as well as the suitability for returns and the conservation of resources (no discrepancy between packaging and goods). In the case of dangerous goods ( dangerous goods , hazardous substances ), the environment must also be protected from the contents.

The shipping packaging includes containers such as barrels , canisters , boxes , sacks , as well as pallets , cardboard boxes , foamed trays , shrink films and similar containers for transport packaging .
Examples of transport packaging and packaging aids are:
- Cardboard transport pallets
- Foils as outer packaging z. B. for beverage cans etc. or for fixing piece goods on transport pallets
- foldable plastic transport boxes
- Boxes for capital goods such as machines, motors, etc.
- Boxes and foils as packaging material for furniture serve
- Packages (e.g. cardboard boxes ) in which a large number of goods are grouped together, e.g. B. Toothpaste tubes, canned food , etc.
- Filling material such as packaging chips, foils such as bubble wrap or foam film to protect the goods from damage
- Anti-condensation bag to protect against condensation
- Packaging to protect against electrostatic discharges (ESD packaging)
Take-back
According to the German Packaging Ordinance , since December 1991 manufacturers have been obliged to take back packaging that has to be reused or recycled. Transport packaging made from renewable raw materials may also be used to generate energy. Until the end of 2012, plastic packaging made from compostable, biodegradable materials was exempt from the take-back obligation.
Norms and standards
In Germany, the packaging ordinance must be observed, in Austria the shipping container ordinance of 2002 applies ( Federal Law Gazette II No. 202/2002 ). The norms of international also are for the packaging of dangerous hazardous goods as well as the hazardous substances legislation must be observed. The consulate and sample regulations serve as a reference work for foreign packaging regulations .
