action

Charles Boulin is a debt collector with a credit company called Crédilem.

After his wife Anne accuses him of being stingy, he decides to surprise her by buying a house in the country. Before he got around to buying the house, however, a colleague snatched it from him. In his disappointment, he steals the bag that contains the signed contracts from his colleague, learns the address of the house owner and makes the purchase of the house clear in his favor.

Having already received several warnings at work, Boulin is fired on the spot for, among other things, the theft of the bag, secret inadmissible percentage reductions on customer repayment rates and the taking of pledged items. Since his termination is also considered to be his own fault, he is not granted the previously promised loan for the renovation of the country house.

In order to reduce renovation costs, Charles Boulin hopes in his distress for the help of the devious realtor who sold him the house, which was in need of renovation. He promises a remedy through befriended craftsmen, his "best team": Mouloud Mami and Donatello Pirelli. Both of them clumsy craftsmen, but the house is gradually in ruins as the renovation progresses.

Charles is now in debt - because of the refused bank loan, he has to sell the apartment together without his wife and daughter finding out. After being kicked out of work, he lives off odd jobs while trying to convince his family to move into the new house - which he succeeds in doing. The house, however, is completely in ruins after a gas explosion.

In his distress, Boulin makes a deal with the broker - and he sells Boulin's house to his ex-colleague, who has tried to snatch it away from him. Since he is still greedy for the property, he buys it contractually "unseen", while Boulin buys back his old condominium with the purchase price.

criticism

"Turbulent romantic comedy tailored entirely to French realities and mentalities without any particular originality."
