Trevor Bayne (born February 19, 1991 in Knoxville , Tennessee ) is an American racing driver who is active for Roush Fenway Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series . His greatest achievement to date has been winning the prestigious Daytona 500 , making him the youngest ever winner in the history of the race.

Career

Early years

Trevor Bayne started his karting career at the age of five . In the eight years that followed, Bayne won three world championships, won over 300 major races, and won 18 state and track championships in the United States. In 2004 Bayne moved to the Allison Legacy Race Series, where he won the award for best newcomer in the first year. The following season, Bayne won the series' national championship. In total, he was able to record 14 wins, 19 pole positions and 30 top 5 placements in 41 starts within just two years.

Due to his good performance, he secured a starting place in the USAR Hooters Procup Series Southern Division at the beginning of 2006 , where he was again able to win the title of most successful newcomer. In 2008, Dale Earnhardt, Inc. became aware of Bayne and offered him a place in the NASCAR Camping World East Series as part of the driver development program. He completed all 13 races of the 2008 season, won the race at Thompson International Speedway and achieved seven top 10 finishes. Fourth overall meant qualifying for the 2009 Toyota All-Star Showdown , which Bayne finished second. With this achievement, he secured the Sunoco Rookie of the Race Award as the best newcomer to the race.

Nationwide Series

2010 Nationwide

In the 2009 season, Bayne signed a contract with Michael Waltrip Racing for a limited number of races and thus came as well as through starts for the teams of Jimmy Means and Bryan Mullet to a total of 15 appearances in the Nationwide Series, in which he was particularly good qualifying results knew convince. 2010 Bayne played his first full season, which he finished seventh in the championship with three pole positions and eleven top 10 finishes. He completed the first 28 races of the season for Michael Waltrip Racing. However, after no further sponsors could be found, he switched to Roush Fenway Racing , where he contested the remaining seven races of the season. In the 2011 season, Bayne competed in the number 16 of Roush Fenway Racing. He had to take a two-month break due to an illness that later turned out to be multiple sclerosis . In November he won his first Nationwide race. In the 2012 season he moved to number 60 within the team and was only able to compete in six races due to a lack of sponsorship. In 2013 Bayne replaced Ricky Stenhouse junior in number 6, with one win and 21 top 10 results, he reached sixth place overall. In 2014 he finished sixth overall, but this time without having won a race.

2010–2014: Wood Brothers Racing

Bayne made his Sprint Cup debut (now Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series) on November 7, 2010 in the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway for Wood Brothers Racing . For the 2011 season, a part-time program was agreed so that Bayne can concentrate on the championship in the Nationwide Series. His first race of the season was the 53rd Daytona 500 on February 20, 2011, which he sensationally won at the age of just 20. This makes Bayne the youngest Daytona 500 winner and one of only a few drivers to have already scored a victory in the second Sprint Cup race of their career. Thanks to a new regulation, according to which the drivers have to commit themselves to one of the three national NASCAR racing series before the season, in which they are then entitled to points, Bayne has not received any championship points for his success. Bayne started this season in 16 more races for the Wood Brothers, a 15th place was the best result. Bayne continued for the team for the next three years. In the 2012 season he competed in 16 races, in the following years 12.

From 2015: Roush Fenway Racing

During the 2014 season it was announced that Bayne would compete for Roush Fenway Racing for the entire season from 2015. In 2015 he was able to achieve two top 10 results, one of them because the race was shortened due to rain. In the 2016 season, a third place in Daytona was his best result, in total he reached the top 10 five times. In that season as well as in the next, he finished 22nd in the drivers' championship, which is his two best overall placings to date. In 2018, Bayne was replaced by Matt Kenseth in certain races and ended the season 31st without making it into the top 10. After his contract expires, Bayne is currently a free agent . In 2019 he did not take part in any races.

Personal
