Trevor Anthony Brissett (born January 2, 1961 in Stoke-on-Trent , † May 17, 2010 in Birmingham ) was an English football player . The full-back was a professional from 1978 to 1983 with Stoke City , Port Vale and Darlington FC and played 67 games in the Football League .
Career
Brissett was playing in the youth division of Stoke City when he was awarded a professional contract in April 1978. After he remained without competitive play for the professional team from Stoke until 1980, he was no longer committed and piloted by John McGrath and John Rudge in the Football League Fourth Division at Port Vale . There he held the right-back position as a regular player in the 1980/81 season, but lost his place in the course of the following season and moved to league rivals FC Darlington at the end of the season on a free transfer . After twelve appearances for Darlington in the 1982/83 season, he returned to Staffordshire and was henceforth active as a player in non-league football with Stafford Rangers , Witton Albion , Macclesfield Town and Newcastle Town . While at Macclesfield, he and his teammates Nigel Shaw, Ian Elsby and Steve Waddington were involved in a serious traffic accident on the way to a test match. For Witton Albion, he came to a total of 124 competitive appearances during his two periods of service and scored one goal.
After the end of his playing career he took over the position of assistant coach under Glyn Chamberlain at Newcastle, with whom he later worked as a coaching team at Congleton Town . In addition, Brissett trained temporarily as the chief coach Meir KA and was part of the coaching team at the Stoke City youth academy. Brissett was married and had two children. He died of cancer in May 2010 at the age of 49 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
