In 2006 Trevor Peters experienced a performance of the autobiographical dance theater piece Zeit - dance since 1927 by Heike Hennig & Co at the Leipzig Opera . In the dance theater, the former members of the Leipzig Ballet Ursula Cain , Christa Franze , Siegfried Prölß and Horst Dittmann tell their life stories. Trevor Peters was so enthusiastic about the dance theater of the generations by Leipzig director and choreographer Heike Hennig that he immediately began preparing for his film and had the last performance of the 2006 season recorded. After the financing was secured, the film production on behalf of ZDF and ARTE was completed in 2007 . At the premiere of the dance film under the title Tanz mit der Zeit in the largest cinema in Leipzig, the film celebrated an overwhelming success with the public, so that after the cinema screening during the 50th DOK Leipzig, a cinema distributor announced the cinema and DVD exploitation.

In 2008, the theatrical release in the Leipzig Opera was accompanied by reports including the topics of the day . The book by the author Marion Appelt was published under the title of the same name in 2008 with a foreword by Renate Schmidt and numerous dance photos by Siegfried Prölß and Friedrich U. Minkus.

As a feature film, Tanz mit der Zeit was shown at international festivals, with the support of the Ballet British Columbia for the North American premiere as Dancing with Time 2008 in Vancouver . On December 12, 2009, the film was first broadcast on European television under the French title Danse avec le temps .
