Live and act

Hennig experienced her first stage appearances as a child in Leipzig. She studied modern dance / choreography and body mind centering in Cologne and performing arts at the Moving On Center - School for Participatory Arts and Research, in Oakland , California , USA , as a scholarship holder of the Carl Duisberg Society . This was followed by several months of work in theater groups in Brazil and Portugal.

In 1995 Hennig returned to Leipzig, where she worked as a freelance choreographer and dancer from 1998. First she worked with the composer Bernd Franke in the Ensemble Solo Xfach and taught at the Palucca School in Dresden , the University of Leipzig and the Academy of Graphics and Book Art . In interdisciplinary seminars with anatomy , painting and choreography , Hennig conveys body and movement-oriented teaching content.

Together with Friedrich U. Minkus, Hennig founded the FZTM - Forum Contemporary Dance and Music in 2000 and her ensemble Heike Hennig & Co in Leipzig as its artistic director, developing more than 15 plays and 30 interdisciplinary art projects at various stages and institutions. Its staff includes over 50 artists of various genres, from architects to video artists .

The trilogy Fremde was created in 2001/2002 in cooperation with the LOFFT and the International Dance Week Dresden . In 2003 the euro-scene Leipzig commissioned the dance piece “Soshamma” at the Schaubühne Lindenfels and the dance piece “Still” in the LOFFT in collaboration with the installation and video artist Till Exit. In 2004 Hennig developed the dance piece "Estha" which was shown for the first time at international festivals outside the Free State of Saxony . In 2004 the dance piece “Mendel” was commissioned by the Jewish Culture Days Berlin and in 2005 the dance performance “Harzer Roller” as part of Heimat Moderne, an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation . In 2006 Hennig developed the dance piece “Encounters with Bach” for the Thuringian Bach Weeks at the German National Theater Weimar in collaboration with the composer Steffen Schleiermacher .

From 2005 the dance piece Zeit - Tanz seit 1927 was created at the Leipzig Opera , which was filmed in 2007 by the New Zealand director Trevor Peters in the documentary Tanz mit der Zeit by Ma.Ja.De Filmproduktion Leipzig in coproduction with ZDF in collaboration with ARTE and in 2008 was brought into German cinemas by Ventura-Film. Hennig lets the former members of the Leipzig Opera, Ursula Cain , Christa Franze , Siegfried Prölß and Horst Dittmann, who were approaching 80 years of age, tell their dance and life stories from Mary Wigman , Dore Hoyer , Tatjana Gsovsky to Gret Palucca . During the filming, the dance piece Zeit Jump was created , in which the protagonists meet their young colleagues from Heike Hennig & Co and DJ cfm. In the dance piece is about the encounter and confrontation of generations, which is also reflected in the various dance styles from the free dance on street dance and contact improvisation to classical ballet can be read. Since the first performance, ZeitSprünge since 1927 and the sequel ZeitSprünge have been performed over 30 times in Leipzig and at international festivals.

In spring 2008 the Plöttner Verlag Leipzig published the book of the same name for the film “Tanz mit der Zeit” by the author Marion Appelt and a foreword by Renate Schmidt . The protagonists tell from their lives and the common path with Hennig. It contains numerous rehearsal and stage photos as well as archive photos of the protagonist and dance photographer Siegfried Prölß .

For the 2007/8 season, Hennig developed and curated the cross-genre series oper unplugged with Musik Tanz Theater Neue Medien in the cellar theater of the Leipzig Opera. In the first four editions of the cycle Subculture meets high culture , artists such as the countertenor and vocal artist Alex Nowitz , the percussionist Günter Sommer , the double bass player Tobias Lampelzammer, the soprano Marie Schuppan, the dancer Friederike Plafki and many others came together. Here Hennig led an open direction with few directing instructions, which gave the stage-active artists a lot of freedom for improvisation and artistic interaction . The master student Hagen Wiel transported with his videos oper unplugged from the old world of opera to the new world of the internet .

At the Kulturinsel Halle - new theater , Hennig developed the movement track in the play Der Mann, der ... ( Brook , Estienne, Sachs) for the repertoire with the Dutch theater director Paul Binnerts and Jochen Kiefer . In the opera production Alcina for the Handel Festival in Halle (Saale) in 2008, Hennig's choreography and direction led to one of the highlights.

In the 2008/9 season the collaboration with the baroque ensemble Lautten Compagney Berlin began, which opened up new dimensions to European music theater in the dance opera Rituale at the Leipzig Opera and in the production Timeless in the Neues Museum on Museum Island Berlin . The reopening of the Neues Museum in March 2009 developed Hennig and Wolfgang Katschner with Timeless an art form of cultural performing hybridity , the genre-crossing architecture, dance and music to intertwines interactivity. The dancers and musicians met the wandering receptionists in the midst of the architecture, structures and sculptures. David Chipperfield himself merges the most modern and traditional architecture: authentic rooms with high columns, round artistic rooms with arched vaults and modern stairs with glass constructions. The staging of music, dance and architecture metaphorically reflected the hybrid constitution of the Neues Museum as a building and also its artistic pluralistic discourse with the outside world through this genre-rich opening ceremony.

In addition to her stage and teaching activities, Hennig was involved in sociocultural projects in 2006. In juries and artistic advisory boards z. For example, the euro-scene Leipzig, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the Dresden Cultural Foundation of the Dresdner Bank , Hennig campaigned for the promotion of contemporary performing arts and music.

Hennig was included in the 50 portraits of the German dance landscape with the 2008 program manual of the German Dance Platform . She has emerged through her innovative work and distinctive artistic positions and is perceived beyond national borders as an “outstanding representative of contemporary dance ”. 2009 traveled Hennig at the invitation of the University of British Columbia as a "Visiting Speaker" to a three-week lecture tour of Canada . Since 2010 she has been teaching regularly at the Zurich University of the Arts . In the 2013 winter semester, Hennig was appointed as an artistic guest professor at the Institute for Theater Studies at Leipzig University.

From 2012 to 2017 she choreographed and directed a number of theater productions at permanent houses, a. a. Schauspielhaus Leipzig, Theater der Junge Welt and Oper Leipzig. With over 300 participants, she developed an interactive performance and an emotional map of the city in the form of a film, which is shown all year round in Matera. At the invitation of the Italian Embassy Berlin, she presented the project to the President of Italy Sergio Matarella and the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in a cultural event as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage in the House of World Cultures in Berlin.
