Federal theater award

The Federal Theater Prize was launched in 2015 as an “encouragement prize” by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, Minister of State Monika Grütters, together with the Center for the Federal Republic of Germany of the International Theater Institute , and was awarded for the first time in December 2015. The jury is appointed by the Minister of State for Culture. Prices

There will be three main prizes of up to 150,000 euros, and further exemplary achievements can be rewarded with prizes of up to 80,000 euros each. With the prize money totaling 900,000 euros, the federal government would like to motivate these venues to “continue successful examples of cultural work that has an impact on urban society”. Since the amount of the prizes for the individual stages is based on the other public funding of the prize winners, the winners receive different amounts of money.

The winners will be announced in December and the prizes will be awarded at the end of January.

Federal Theater Prize 2019

The award ceremony took place on May 27, 2019 in the Gera Theater , which was one of the winners in 2017. The basis for the award of the Federal Theater Prize 2019 was the program for the 2017/18 season.
