Trichlorophenols
Trichlorophenols are isomeric chemical compounds from the group of chlorophenols , which are derivatives of phenol in which three hydrogen atoms have been replaced by chlorine . They have the empirical formula C 6 H 3 Cl 3 O, a molar mass of 197.45 g / mol and are available as colorless to yellowish solids. There are six different isomers . All compounds strongly irritate the eyes, which is why they are sometimes used in warfare agents . During their production, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans are produced as by-products under unfavorable conditions .
2,4,5-Trichlorophenol is used in the production of hexachlorophene , 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid and other derivatives. 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol is a natural breakdown product of fungicides containing pentachlorophenol .
