Trier English drama
Trier English Drama ( TED for short ) is an English-speaking theater group from Trier .
history
The only English-speaking theater group in the Trier area was founded in 1974 by Jörg Hasler as a reading group for English plays at the university. The first performances have taken place since 1978, initially in the auditorium of the Trier University of Applied Sciences and then in the university's ventilation cellar ("Theater in der Lüftungs (TILT)"). Mostly under the artistic direction of Norbert Greiner , pieces by John Arden and Edward Bond were performed in the first few years .
From 1983 to 1991 Hans-Joachim Eigner took over the management of the group as producer and director. During this time she continued to perform exclusively pieces by contemporary British authors, including Alan Ayckbourn and Alan Bennett .
In the 1990s the group moved from the ventilation cellar to the chapel on Campus II, at times under the name "Caution: Students At Play (C: SAP)" and later "English Drama Group Trier" Play writers and William Shakespeare . After three years under the direction of Carolyn Burlingame, Christian Scholze staged two plays with the group in 1995/1996 .
In 1997 Elke and Christoph Nonn took over the responsibility as directors and producers. Under her leadership, after disagreements with the administration of Trier University, the group moved to larger stages in the city center. After two performances in the former “Production at the Cathedral”, she found a permanent home in 2008 in the Trier cloth factory . Since 2010 she has been playing under the name "Trier English Drama (TED)".
