Trifluoromethyl hypofluorite is a chemical compound from the group of organic fluorine compounds.
Extraction and presentation
Trifluoromethyl hypofluorite can be obtained by reacting carbonyl fluoride with fluorine in the presence of a metal fluoride such as potassium fluoride , rubidium fluoride or cesium fluoride at −78 ° C.
Methanol or carbon monoxide can also be used as a starting material for the reaction .
properties
Trifluoromethyl hypofluorite is a colorless, poisonous gas with a fluorine-like odor. It only reacts slowly with water and only thermally decomposes above 450 ° C. Below −95 ° C it is a straw yellow liquid. It is a powerful oxidizer .
use
It was used for the production of α-fluoroketones from silyl enol ethers.
