Triphenylarsane is a chemical compound from the group of organic arsenic compounds .

Extraction and presentation

Triphenylarsane can be obtained by reacting arsenic (III) chloride with chlorobenzene and sodium as reducing agents .

It is also produced as a by-product in the manufacture of diphenylarsine chloride .

properties

Triphenylarsane is a colorless solid that is insoluble in water. It is the arsenic analogue of triphenylphosphine . It decomposes from a temperature of 360 ° C. The compound has a pyramidal crystal structure with As – C distances from 194.2 to 195.6 pm and C – As – C angles from 99.6 to 100.5 °.

use

Triphenylarsane is used as a ligand in the production of metal complexes and as an intermediate in the production of organic compounds such as tetraphenylarsonium chloride , a popular precipitation reagent. It is part of the chemical warfare agent arsine oil .
