Troels Oerting

Troels Oerting , Danish Troels Ørting Jørgensen (* 1957 in Padborg ) is a Danish police officer. Until February 2015 he was Assistant Director of Europol (since 2009) and head of the European Center for Combating Cybercrime (EC3), founded in January 2013 . In addition, Oerting was in charge of Europol's Counter-Terrorism and Financial Investigation Center until further notice.

With these tasks, Oerting was responsible for the performance of ten departments that carry out specific police tasks on behalf of EU members, including a 24/7 command and control center, analysis, knowledge management, public-private partnerships , organized crime in general and crime networks, economic crime , money laundering , corruption , counterfeiting , credit card fraud , terrorism , extremism , illegal drugs , piracy , human trafficking , cyber crime , sexual abuse of children using the Internet as well as programs to prosecute terror-related financial flows. He was responsible for strategy and cooperation with Interpol , Frontex , FATF and relations with international partners such as the United States and Russia. In September 2013, Oerting was named by Security Magazine as one of the 20 most influential people in the security sector based on mentions from the security sector.

In February 2015, Europol announced that Oerting was leaving these positions to become Chief Information Security Officer ( CISO ) of Barclays . He himself did not comment on his move.

Career

Oerting began his career in the Danish police when he joined in 1980.

He was the director of the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS). In 1997 he moved to the head of the Danish Police Department for Serious Crimes and Organized Crime (SOCA). This department fights organized crime from local to global reach. SOCA also manages contacts with Interpol , Europol, the Baltic Sea Task Force on Organized Crime and other key partners. SOCA is also responsible for witness protection and negotiations with scourge-takers in Denmark .

As is common in Scandinavian countries, domestic intelligence in Denmark is part of the police apparatus. Oerting changed as director and head of the Danish domestic intelligence service Politiets Efterretningstjeneste (PET), which he headed until January 1, 2008. Here he was responsible for counter-terrorism and counter-espionage with the involvement of external partners.

Oerting moved to Europol as Assistant Director, where he headed the Information Management and Technology department and developed Europol's IT strategy from 2010 to 2014.

From January 2013 Oerting headed the newly established European Center for Combating Cybercrime (EC3) in The Hague .

Oerting is a board member in various international police organizations. For example, he led the national groups in Europol HENU ( Heads of Europol National Units ) and was chairman of the PTN cooperation ( Nordic Police Task Force Cooperation ) and chairman of the advisory group on Danish police chiefs.

On behalf of Europol, Oerting led the European delegations to the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI), Interpol, Maritime Analysis and Operations Center (MAOC) of the Baltic Sea Task Force, CATS, COSI, CTWG. He is a lecturer at Danish police academies.

Oerting has written a detective novel that has been published only in Danish ( Operation Gamma , 2007, Denmark).
