Trouble the Water is the title of a documentary released in 2008 . It was produced by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal, who also worked as producers on Fahrenheit 9/11 . The film shows the fate of Kimberly Rivers Roberts and her husband Scott during Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 . Locked in their house in New Orleans , they record the extent of the storm and the floods with a hand-held camera , comment on it and express their thoughts.

Awards

Trouble the Water was nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for Best Documentary . In addition, the 2008 film won at the Sundance Film Festival the Grand Jury Prize , received the Working Films Award at the Full Frame Documentary Festival , the Kathleen Bryan Edwards Award for Human Rights and the Special Award at the AFI / Silverdoc Festival (all 2008).

The film also won the Gotham Award for Best Documentary in 2009 and the Council on Foundation's Henry Hampton Award (2008). In addition, Trouble the Water for the NAACP Image Award for outstanding documentaries and for the Producers Guild of America Award nominations (both 2009).
