occupation

Truth or Dare is an American horror film from 2013. The very tough horror film serves the torture porn subgenre and is the directorial debut of Jessica Cameron , who also plays one of the leading roles.

action

The YouTuber Jennifer Collins, Ray and his sister Courtney Austin, Michelle Lucas, Tony Lockhart and John Moore together form the group "Truth or Dare-Devils". They play the game of truth or dare . After a particularly daring stunt that involved a fake game of Russian roulette , they sit on a talk show and comment on their success. Derik B. Smith, who absolutely wants to become a member of the group, also sits in the audience. The eccentric even has to be kicked out of the studio after accusing the group of not replying to his fan mail and becoming increasingly aggressive.

Shortly thereafter, everyone meets in the new house of director John Moore, who has set up a room for the six members in his remote house. They want to start where they left off: the Russian roulette should be shown even more realistically, this time with blank cartridges . First, as always, it's Tony's turn and wins. Now it's John's turn, but to the horror of everyone involved, the headshot kills him.

Derik now enters the scene. He threatens the remaining five members with a gun and starts filming a video with what he says is a more realistic version of the game. And so he first reveals unpleasant truths: Tony is a pedophile and has had sex with several minors, the siblings Ray and Courtney are also lovers, Jennifer was raped and Courtney was previously a man. If someone didn't tell the truth, they would be shot or stabbed with a knife. The compulsory part is also very uncomfortable. Ray has to eat broken glass and Tony has to cut off his nipples. In between, Ray uploads the videos to YouTube and enjoys the comments.

It doesn't take long for the first members to die. Tony is shot twice from the head in a number based on Wilhelm Tell , until Jennifer deliberately shoots him for his pedophilia. But that's not all: Ray is supposed to satisfy Courtney with a bottle, which dies in agony, then Jennifer amputates his right testicle. The macabre game goes on and on. In the end, Jennifer and Michelle are left. When Michelle refuses to perform an abortion on Jennifer and attacks her tormentor, he shoots her. Then there is a scuffle between Derek and Jennifer, with Derik losing an eye. He leaves the supposedly dead Jennifer lying around and leaves the house. In the end he announced that he was looking for a new team.

After the credits you can see Jennifer's fingers twitching.

background

Jessica Cameron co-wrote the script with Jonathan Scott Higgins. After the search for sponsors went well and enough money was available, Cameron tried to find a suitable director, but three of the six asked had no time and the rest wanted to tone down the very hard and uncompromising script, which Cameron did not agree with. Finally she decided to direct herself and found an experienced cameraman with Chase Jonathan Azimi , who should support her with stylistic questions. The only thing that was missing was the money for post-production , as this was not included in the cost calculation, as this work would normally have been done by the directors. So she got the rest of the money through the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo .

It premiered on September 13, 2013 at the Arizona Underground Film Festival. There he also won the award for the best film. It has been shown at numerous other horror film festivals and has won more than 19 awards.

Reviews

Christopher Jimenez of ComingSoon.net gave it six out of 10 points and wrote that the film crossed borders and was shocking, not only because of the numerous splatter effects, but also because of the confessions. He praised the actors, especially Ryan Kiser , who would play his role as the crazy villain confidently without exaggerating. Overall, he rated the film as a solid indie debut for Cameron.
