Tulipa bakeri is a species of tulip ( Tulipa ) in the lily family (Liliaceae). It is named after the plant collector George Percival Baker (1856–1951). The species is often not separated from the rock tulip because ithybridizes easilywith it and with Tulipa cretica and forms transitional populations. Thecultivar 'Lilac Wonder',often cultivated and oftenlabeledas “ Tulipa bakeri ”, belongs to the rock tulip ( Tulipa saxatilis ).

Tulipa bakeri is a perennial onion - Geophyt achieved the stature heights between 5 and 25 centimeters. The leaves are dull or slightly glossy green. The petals are more or less short and dark pink purple. On the inside there is a yellow spot on the ground running in a light ring. The anthers are yellow. The capsule usually has clearly visible cross veins in the upper part.

The flowering period extends from April to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

Tulipa bakeri is endemic to Crete . The species grows on rocky slopes, scree slopes, fields, fallow land and river banks at altitudes of 650 to 2200 meters.
