Turaluraluralu - Ich mach BuBu what are you doing is a Christmas song by the German band Trio , which was released as a single from the album Bye Bye in December 1983 . It was Trio's last hit in Germany .

Musical description

The Suzuki Omnichord shapes the sound of Turaluraluralu.

Turaluraluralu is shaped by the sound of a special keyboard, the Suzuki Omnichord , which initially introduces the song with rhythm and light harmonies alone. Little by little, vocals, guitar, choir, strings and, at the end, a bell set in. Like almost all songs by Trio, Turaluraluralu does without a bass.

In terms of content, the song describes a man's longing for a woman through two stanzas.

Emergence

Although the singer Stephan Remmler and the guitarist Kralle Krawinkel are listed as authors at GEMA , Remmler claims the composition for himself. In later years, Krawinkel complained that the song had nothing in common with the original musical concept of Trio and felt demoted to Remmler's accompaniment. Remmler wrote the song in the summer of 1982 while on vacation in Spain and sang various working versions on the answering machine at home. Right from the start Remmler wrote a German and a separate English text for Turaluraluralu. The English version is entitled Tooralooralooraloo - Is It Old & Is It New .

publication

On December 9, 1982 - a year before the song was published - the trio presented the song live as part of the ARD Klassik Rocknacht by Eberhard Schoener . Trio was accompanied by a classical orchestra and a choir. On Christmas Eve 1982 Trio recorded Turaluraluralu with producer Klaus Voormann in the Paramount Studios in Hollywood , where Bing Crosby sang the song White Christmas . Remmler later attributed the Christmas mood of the song to this fact. The song appeared in the English version in September on Trio's second studio album Bye Bye and was released as a (German-language) single just in time for the Christmas business in December 1983.

The single cover shows a photo of the trio against a white background. The title of the single is shown in speech bubbles . In a second edition of the single, Remmler, Krawinkel and drummer Peter Behrens wear Christmas hats that were added to the photo by photo montage . On the B-side of the single is - also on the English-language press of the single - the German song Immer wieder .

The release was accompanied by a number of television appearances in which the song was presented. A live appearance on Thommy's pop show caused a sensation , in which Remmler sang the song together with Thomas Gottschalk . For the finale, all the guests of the show appeared on stage (including Chris de Burgh , Musical Youth and Nena ) and sang along with the chorus. Trio was then accused of commercialism, which Remmler replied:

“Everyone says you can't do that, and that's why we're doing it. People are lying in their pockets. If you get involved with the industry, then at least consistently. "

Commercially, the song was quite successful in the German-speaking countries and was able to place in the top 10 of the German, Austrian and Swiss single charts. However, Turaluraluralu was the last commercial success for Trio in Germany. The successor single Tutti Frutti was only able to place in the top 20 in New Zealand .
