Tygo Gernandt (born April 7, 1974 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch actor .

Professional career

Gernandt attended the film school "Stichting Cervelaat" from 1987 and then went to "Pabo" (Pedagogical academy for primary education).

In 1991 he played the role of "Carl" in eight episodes in the series Goede tijden, slechte tijden and in the following year took a guest role in the series Oppass !!! . In 1993 he was seen in the film Angie and in 1995 took over a guest role as "Michael" for two episodes in the series Voor hete vuren . In 1996 he was seen in the films Hugo and Woensdag, gehaktdag and in the same year played guest roles in two other television series . Also in 1996 he took on a role in the film Naar de klote! , which in Germany under the title Wasted! - The big waste ran.

From 1998 to 1999 he took on guest roles in the television series Combat and Baantjer . In 1999 he starred in the film Jezus is een Palestijn (German: Jesus is a Palestinian ), for which the director Lodewijk Crijns received the prize in the “FIPRESCI Prize - Special Mention” category at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival . The film was shown in Germany in an 18-minute shorter version than in the Netherlands. Between 1999 and 2000 he took on guest roles in three different television series and starred in the 2001 film Emergency Exit , which premiered on Argentine television in 2008.

Also in 2001 he took part in the film Soul Assassin , which was screened at various film festivals. a. in Norway, Japan, Egypt, the USA and at the Dutch Film Festival. The film was only shown in Germany in July 2003 and was released on DVD in Italy in November 2003 .

Gernandt played in various television series between 2001 and 2003 and in 2003 took on the role of "Maikel Verheije" in the film Van God Los , in which he was awarded the golden calf for best actor at the Dutch film festival . At the same festival he also received the “Favorite Actor” award in the “Dutch Filmstar Election” category. He then starred in the 25-minute short film Anderland . Another short film followed in 2004 under the title Kaas , with a length of 9 minutes.

After another guest role in the television series Kees & Co. , he took on a role in the 2004 film De dominee , which was released on DVD in Germany in 2005 under the title The Preacher . At the Dutch film festival, the art director of the film, Marco Rooth, received the golden calf for best production design. He then appeared in the 5-minute short film Poot! with, which was shown at the Dutch Film Festival in September 2004.

Two more television films followed, Snacken (2004) and Boy Meets Girl Stories # 1: Smachten (2005). The latter was published in Hong Kong in August 2006. In September 2005 the film Joyride was released , in which he co-wrote the script and took on the role of "Tim".

In 2005 the film Schnitzelparadies (Dutch: Het schnitzelparadijs ) was released, directed by Martin Koolhoven and which appeared in an international version as Schnitzel Paradise . Gernandt took on the role of "Goran" in the film and was awarded a Golden Calf for "Best Supporting Actor" at the Dutch Film Festival. The film received the award as “Best Screenplay” at the “Skip City International D-Cinema Festival” and was honored at the US Comedy Arts Festival in the categories “Comedy Film Honor” and “Film Discovery Jury Award”. In the same year the television film Offers was released , which was shown at the Dutch Film Festival in September and for which Maryam Hassouni received an Emmy for “Best Performance by an Actress”. He also appeared in the film Eilandgasten , which was shown at the Dutch Film Festival in October 2005 and opened in cinemas in January 2006.

In 2006 the film Ik omhels je met 1000 armen was released , which was shown in July 2007 in Poland at the “Filmowa Stolica Lata” and at the Dutch Film Festival with the Golden Calf for “Best Sound” and “Best Supporting Actress” (Catherine ten Bruggencate) was awarded. In the same year the 9-minute animated short film Elephants Dream was released , in which he took over the speaking role of "Proog", as well as another speaking role in the film Zoop in India . Director Johan Nijenhuis received an award at the Dutch Film Festival for Zoop in India . In September 2006 the film Paid was released , which was shown at the Brazilian São Paulo International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Market .

A year later he took on a guest role in the television series ' t Schaep Met De 5 Pooten and played 26 episodes in the series Van Speijk between 2006 and 2007 . In 2007 the film Vivere followed , which was released in Germany in October 2007 and was shown at film festivals in France, Finland, Argentina and the USA, among others. The film SEXtet followed in September 2007 .

In 2008 the film Nefarious was released in Great Britain , in which he played the role of "Brian". This was followed by the film Dunya & Desie , which was shown at various film festivals (Argentina, Egypt, USA, Indonesia, Germany - Berlin International Film Festival) and was nominated for best film at the Dutch Film Festival. In the same year he played for an episode in the television series Roes and for ten episodes in the series Schnitzelparadijs - De serie .

In the movie Mein Kriegswinter , shot in 2008 , he took on the role of "Bertus". The film is also known under the English title Winter in Wartime and was nominated in 2009 for the Oscar film prizes , as best foreign language film and for the Satellite Award .

In 2009 he starred in the film drama Carmen van het noorden , which was shown in February 2009 at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and was awarded the Golden Calf for the best music at the Dutch Film Festival. After a guest role for three episodes in the television series Vuurzee , he starred in the film Mijn vader is een detective , for which the director Will Wissink received the "Movie Squad Junior Award" at the Dutch film festival. In the same year he was seen in the film Het leven uit een dag .

In 2010 the drama First Mission followed .
