Tyra Gittens (born September 6, 1998 ) is a track and field athlete from Trinidad and Tobago who competes in several disciplines, but specializes in the heptathlon .

Athletic career

Tyra Gittens gained her first international experience in 2017 at the CARIFRA Games in Willemstad , where she won the gold medal in the heptathlon with 4854 points and the silver medal in the long jump with 6.10 m . She then came fourth in the heptathlon at the Pan American Junior Championships in Trujillo with 5229 points and won the bronze medal in the long jump with 6.13 m. In 2018 she started in the Central American and Caribbean Games in heptathlon, but had to end her competition after seven disciplines. Then she finished fourth in the long jump at the NACAC Championships in Toronto with a width of 6.25 m. The following year she was fifth in the long jump at the Summer Universiade in Naples with 6.37 m and ninth place in the high jump with 1.75 m. Then she took part in the Pan American Games in Lima , but had to end her all-around competition there too.

In 2018 and 2019, Gittens became the Trinidadian-Tobag champion in the long jump. She is studying at Texas A&M University and finished second in the heptathlon for the university's athletics team with 6049 points at the 2019 NCAA championships.
