The TR 1700 is a completely redeveloped design, so the downplanes are different from class 206 and 209 on the tower , and the TR 1700 has two decks instead of the usual one. The equipment of the boat has been designed flexibly, so a larger (TR 1700A) and two smaller (TR 1400 and TR 1100) versions were planned, but they never went into construction.
The only orders for the type came from the armed forces of Argentina , which ordered a total of six units. First two boats were built in Emden , four more were to be built under license in Argentina. Two copies ordered in version TR 1400 were later changed to TR 1700. The equipment needed for production arrived in Argentina, but the units were not completed due to budget problems.
