The UJ Esuene Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Calabar in southeastern Nigeria .
It is the home of the Calabar Rovers and formerly Dolphins FC . It has a capacity of 16,000 and was opened in 1977. It was planned to host the 2009 U-17 World Cup .
The UJ Esuene Stadium opened on April 2, 1977 with a game by Bendel Insurance and the Calabar Rovers . Two weeks later, the stadium will be home to its first international game between Rangers International and Tonnerre Yaoundé . Games from the 2003 African Games were played in the stadium, as were Nigeria's qualifying games for the 2008 African Cup . In addition, the 1999 World Junior Championship was held here. Group C games were played in Calabar as part of the U-17 World Cup in 2009 .
