history
The Jack Williams was laid down at Bath Iron Works on February 25, 1980 and launched on August 30, 1980. It was named after Jack Williams , who fell during the Battle of Iwo Jima and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor . The Jack Williams was commissioned in the United States Navy on September 19, 1981 as the 16th unit in its class.
During her time in the US Navy, she took part in Operation Praying Mantis , Operation Desert Storm and Operation Support Democracy off Haiti .
Since she was one of the "short" units of the Perry class, the Jack Williams was decommissioned in 1996 and deleted from the Naval Vessel Register . In the same year the ship was sold to the Navy of Bahrain , in which it sails as Sabha (90) . In 2008 she took part in the multinational Arabian Shark exercise.
