The USS Boone is one for Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate belonging frigate of the US Navy , which was found in May 1982 in service. The ship had an active career of 30 years and was decommissioned in February 2012. Since then, the Boone has been in the reserve fleet .

history

The Boone was commissioned on January 23, 1978 as a unit of the Oliver Hazard Perry class, the keel was laid on March 27, 1979 in the shipyard of Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle . The ship was launched on January 16, 1980 and entered service on May 15, 1982. Namesake is the Vice Admiral Joel Thompson Boone.

On 30 November 2006, suffered Boone during a mission in the western Mediterranean a damaged rudder and had the German fuel transporter Spessart (1442 A) in the Naval Station Rota be towed. The defective rudder was replaced by December 27th, and the ship was able to continue its use the following day.

The Boone received the Battle Effectiveness Award in 2005 and 2006 for outstanding service. The ship stationed in Florida belonged to Destroyer Squadron 14 and then to the United States Fifth Fleet, with which it was among other things against piracy off the coast of Somalia .

On February 23, 2012, the Boone was retired after almost 30 years of service and transferred to the reserve fleet, where it is still located today. The ship is to be scrapped.
