The USS Carr (FFG-52) is the 42nd ship in the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided missile frigates . It was named after Gunners Mate Third Class Paul Henry Carr, USNR from Checotah , Oklahoma (1924-1944). He served as the gun leader of the rear 5-inch gun of the destroyer escort USS Samuel B. Roberts during the sea ​​and air battle in the Leyte Gulf . The ship is to be sold to the Taiwanese Navy.

history

The keel of the frigate was laid on March 26, 1982 at the Todd Pacific shipyard in San Pedro ( California ). She was launched on February 26, 1983, and began active service on July 27, 1985.

The ship last served in the Atlantic fleet and began a three-month relocation for training trips in the Baltic Sea in June 2011. On March 13, 2013, the Carr was decommissioned.
