The USS Mississippi (SSN-782) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy . It belongs to the Virginia class and was named after the US state Mississippi .
history
SSN-782 was commissioned in 2004 and laid down at Electric Boat in June 2010 . In October 2011, the construction dock was flooded and the Mississippi was launched. The christening took place on December 3, 2011, godmother was Allison Stiller, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Navy, responsible for shipbuilding. In May 2012, the US Navy removed the submarine, a year ahead of schedule and under budget.
The commissioning took place on June 2, 2012 in Pascagoula , Mississippi.
