The USS Missouri (SSN-780) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy . It belongs to the Virginia class and was named after the US state Missouri .
history
SSN-780 was commissioned in 2003 and laid down at Electric Boat in September 2008 . After 14 months of construction, the construction dock was flooded on November 20, 2009 and the Missouri was launched. The ship was christened on December 5th. Godmother was Becky Gates, wife of US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates . The commissioning took place on July 31, 2010 in Groton , Connecticut .
