The USS North Dakota (SSN-784) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy . It belongs to the Virginia class and was named after the US state of North Dakota .
Surname
On July 15, 2008, it was announced that SSN-783 would be named after the US state of North Dakota. She is only the second ship in the US Navy to receive this name. The first was the North Dakota , a Delaware- class battleship . It was in service from 1910 to 1923.
history
construction
The order went to Electric Boat in Groton in 2008 . The boat was in May 2012 to set keel and by August of next year stack left. SSN-784 is the first submarine from Block III, it received some innovations, such as a modified bow. Technologies have also been adopted from the Ohio class .
North Dakota was delivered to the US Navy on August 29, 2014, two days before the agreed date, and entered service on October 25 of the same year.
