The USS Nevada (SSBN-733) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy and belongs Ohio class at. As a Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear , it carries 24 ICBMs .
history
The Nevada was commissioned from Electric Boat in 1981 and laid down there in August 1983. After more than two years of construction, the boat was launched, the final equipment cost another year.
So from 1986 Nevada conducted deterrent patrols .
On August 1, 2006, the Nevada was operating at periscope depth in the Juan-de-Fuca-Strait , when she caught and severed the tow of the tug Phyllis Dunlap with her sail . One of the two towed barges then detached itself from the tug and had to be “caught” by a second ship. The sail of the submarine was slightly damaged.
In fiction
The Nevada plays a supporting role in Tom Clancy's novel Debt of Honor .
