Uchiko ( Japanese : 内 子 町 ; -chō) is a municipality in the district of Kita-gun ( 喜 多 郡 ) in Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku in Japan .

The community ( ) has existed in its current form since January 1, 2005, when the three communities Uchiko-chō, Ikazaki-chō ( 五十 崎 町 ) and Oda-chō ( 小田 町 ) were merged. In March 2006 it counted a total of 20,455 inhabitants on 299.5 km² and a population density of 68 inhabitants per km².

Uchiko is located in the mountains of Ehime Prefecture, about 40 km southwest of the prefecture capital Matsuyama . Three rivers flow through the community: the Oda, the Nakayama and the Fumoto. The soil is very fertile; the main crops are tobacco and fruits such as sweet persimmon figs and Japanese pears. Since Uchiko has little flat land, most of the farms are located on river banks, on hills and on mountain slopes. Throughout all seasons, the Uchiko area with its charming landscape, wooded mountains and tranquil valleys offers its residents relaxation in addition to the economic source of income. The charming landscape of the area, with wooded mountains and idyllic valleys, invites you to relax and is developed for tourism together with cultural events and sights.

During the Edo (1603–1867) and Meiji (1868–1912) periods, Japanese paper and wax production flourished in Uchiko and the city achieved great prosperity. During this time, the districts of Yōkaichi and Gokoku emerged, whose historic buildings still remind of the period of economic prosperity. The wooden, two-storey, white or cream-colored plastered houses of the traders with their decorative walls and wing-like eaves form a row of houses about 600 m long, which still shows many traces of the past splendor of Uchiko. In 1975 the city of Uchiko launched a campaign to preserve this street, and in 1982 the Japanese state listed the old town of Uchiko with around 70 preserved houses.
