Saijō ( Japanese 西 条 市 - shi ) is a city in Ehime Prefecture on the north coast of Shikoku Island in Japan .
geography
Saijō is east of Matsuyama and west of Takamatsu and Niihama . It extends along the southeast of the Takanawa Peninsula .
history
From 1636 to 1871 the village at that time was the seat of the fiefdom ( Han ) Saijō .
The city of Saijō, which was founded in 1941, divided the city of Tōyo ( 東 予 市 , -shi ) and the communities of Komatsu ( 小松 町 , -chō ) and Tambara ( 丹 原 町 , -chō ) from the district of Shūsō ( 周 桑 郡 , - gun ) a. The district was then dissolved.
