Yūto Nagatomo ( Japanese 長 友 佑 都 , Nagatomo Yūto ; born September 12, 1986 in Saijō ) is a Japanese national football player .

Club career

Yūto Nagatomo had played in his youth in teams in his schools and from 2005 in the team at Meiji University before he was signed by FC Tokyo in 2007 . Since 2008, the full-back was there regular player in the J1 League . His greatest success with the team was winning the league cup in 2009 .

In July 2010 he moved to Italy on loan to the then Serie A promoted AC Cesena for a year . The association was also given an option to make a permanent commitment. On January 28, 2011, Cesena exercised this option. Three days later Nagatomo was loaned to the then champions Inter Milan for the second half of the 2010/11 season. In return, Cesena received defender Davide Santon on loan. After a convincing appearance for Inter, Nagatomo was firmly signed. On January 5, 2013, he extended his contract to June 2016.

In November 2013, Nagatomo was named Asia's International Player of the Year , beating Keisuke Honda and Son Heung-min .

On March 23, 2014 Nagatomo completed his 100th league game for Inter Milan. On the last day of the 2018 winter transfer period, Nagatomo was awarded to Galatasaray Istanbul . In the second half of the season Nagatomo made 15 appearances and was Turkish champion with Galatasaray. Inter Milan announced their final departure to Galatasaray on June 30, 2018. Galatasaray paid a transfer fee of 2.5 million euros for the Japanese full-back. Nagatomo won two Turkish championships with Galatasaray and one Turkish cup and Supercup winner. The Japanese scored two goals in 47 league games. In the summer of 2020, his expiring contract was not extended.

National team

After a few months at FC Tokyo Nagatomo made his debut for the Japanese national team on May 24, 2008 against the Ivory Coast selection . In the same year he took part in the Olympic tournament with Japan . He quickly established himself in the national team. He was used six times in the successful qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . As a regular in the Japanese squad , he completed all three preliminary round matches and the round of 16, in which the Japanese selection was eliminated on penalties against the Paraguayan national team.

In January 2011 Nagatomo took part with the Japanese selection at the Asian Cup in Qatar . He played all six games of his team and prepared the gate for the 1-0 final victory over the Australian national team .

At the 2014 World Cup , he played in the three group games and retired with his team after defeats against Ivory Coast (1: 2) and Colombia (1: 4) and a goalless draw against Greece after the group stage.

At the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia , he reached the quarter-finals with his team, where they lost on penalties to the national soccer team of the United Arab Emirates . In qualifying for the 2018 World Cup , the Japanese were able to qualify as the third team after the automatically qualified host. On November 10, 2017, he played his 100th international match in the friendly against Brazil . At the World Cup in Russia , the Japanese were the first team to reach the round of 16 due to the fair play rule, but were eliminated there against Belgium . Nagatomo was used in all four games.

At the 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates , he and his team reached the final again, but lost it 1: 3 against Qatar .
