Seiyo ( Japanese 西 予 市 -shi ) is a city in Ehime Prefecture on the north coast of Shikoku Island in Japan .

Seiyo is southwest of Matsuyama and north of Uwajima .

history

Seiyo was formed on April 1, 2004 from the union of the communities Akehama ( 明 浜 町 , -chō ), Nomura ( 野村 町 , -chō ), Shirokawa ( 城 川 町 , -chō ) and Uwa ( 宇 和 町 , -chō ) of Higashiuwa County , as well as the community Mikame ( 三 瓶 町 , -chō ) of the district Nishiuwa founded.
