Astragalus sinicus is a plant from the family of legumes (Fabaceae).

features

Astragalus sinicus is an annual or short-lived perennial plant. It is sparsely covered with pressed, white, 0.1 to 0.6 millimeter long hair. The stem is complex branched, ascending to almost upright or prostrate to creeping, has long internodes and is up to 30 centimeters high. It is hairy to almost bald when pressed and forms roots at the nodes . The leaves are 2.5 to 10 inches long. The petiole is much shorter than the rest of the leaf and, similar to the leaf spindle, has thin hairs. The leaflets are arranged in 3 to 5 pairs, obovate to inverted heart-shaped and 5 to 17 × 3 to 13 millimeters in size. The upper side of the leaf is densely hairy, the underside of the leaf glabrous or has a few isolated hairs. The tip of the leaf is broadly rounded to clearly delineated.

The inflorescences are umbel-shaped, four- to ten-flowered grapes . The peduncle is 2.5 to 25 inches long, erect and thinly haired. The bracts are 0.3 to 1 millimeter in size and ciliate. The calyx is 3 to 5 millimeters in size and loose to fairly dense, rarely covered with heavily pressed, wide and flattened, white, 0.1 to 0.3 millimeter hairs. The calyx teeth are 1 to 2, rarely up to 3 millimeters in size. The petals are white, pink, light red or purple, more rarely yellow or cream colored. The flag is egg-shaped, measures 9 to 14 × 5 to 8 millimeters and has an incised tip. The wings are 7 to 11 millimeters in size. The shuttle is 9 to 14 millimeters in size. The legumes have a 2 to 3 millimeter long stem. They are 12 to 20 millimeters long and 2.5 to 3.5 millimeters thick. Their beak is up to 5 millimeters long. The fruit flaps are thin and blackish.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in East Asia, it occurs in Japan, Taiwan and in China in Fujian , Gansu , Guangdong , Guangxi , Guizhou , Hebei , Hunan , Jiangsu , Jiangxi , Shaanxi , Sichuan , Yunnan and Zhejiang . It grows in damp locations, river banks and as a weed in rice fields at altitudes of 100 to 3000 meters.

Systematics
