Udo Janßen

Udo Janßen (born December 15, 1967 in Birkesdorf ) is a German doctor with advanced training in gynecology and gerontology as well as a graduate in business administration , business law and industrial and organizational psychologist. He is a clinic manager and expert in health economics as well as a professor of general business administration with a focus on health care management at the University of Economics & Management (FOM) in Essen and a lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU).

Career

After studying medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München , he worked as an assistant doctor and research assistant in gynecology and obstetrics at the university clinics in Munich. He received his doctorate in medicine from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1998. He acquired his qualification as a gerontologist at the University of Mannheim. He later completed a part-time course in business administration at the University of the Teutonic Order and Public Health at the Universities of Bern , Basel and Zurich . In Berlin , he successfully completed his degree in business law and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He successfully completed his studies in work and organizational psychology at the Kurt Levin Institute at the University of Hagen. Janßen also studied medical technology while working at the University of Kaiserslautern and was recognized as a clinical engineer by the VDE. At the European Business School he studied Interim Executive with a focus on crisis management .

Professional background

Among other things, he worked as an internationally active management consultant and interim manager in hospitals and as managing director of the Institute for European Health and Social Economy (IEGUS). Since 2011 he has been Professor of General Business Administration with a focus on Health Care Management at the University of Economics & Management (FOM) in Essen. In addition, he has other teaching positions at national and international universities and was a. a. Visiting professor for business administration at the Shangdong Agricultural University, Tai'an, in the People's Republic of China . Before he became general director of the Vienna Hospital Association in 2013, he was a managing director of the German Hospital Institute and an advisory member of the board of the German Hospital Association (DKG). From 2011 to 2012 he was a member of the German government's export initiative “Healthcare”. From 2013 to 2014 he was Chief Financial Officer and Deputy General Manager, from 2014 to 2017 CEO of the Vienna Hospital Association (KAV). He played a key role in the implementation of the Vienna Hospital Concept 2030. As General Director, together with around 500 employees from all professions, he developed the new strategic orientation of the Vienna Hospital Association in the form of a medical master plan combined with a master operating organization for all operating facilities. This was confirmed and made binding by the City of Vienna in January 2016. From 2014 to 2017 he was a member of the board of the Association of the Public Economy and Community of Austria (VÖWG) in Vienna. From 2013 to 2017 he was on the supervisory board of the service and purchasing group of municipal hospitals eG in the German Association of Cities (GDEKK). Since 2018 he has been Partner Advisory Health Care at KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft Deutschland.

Publications

Janßen is a lecturer at universities and health institutions u. a. on the subject of "Modernizing Human Resources Management in Hospitals" and also organized specialist meetings and conferences. He is the founder, editor and author of a 14-volume series of textbooks on health care and hospital management.
