The Ugashik River is a tributary of the Bering Sea on the Alaska Peninsula in southwestern Alaska .

The 61 km long river drains Lower Ugashik Lake on its northwest shore. It flows in a predominantly westward direction to Ugashik Bay , a small bay on the northwest coast of the Alaska Peninsula. 17 km above the estuary lies the Ugashik settlement on the left bank of the river . 8 km further downstream, the Dog Salmon River , the only major tributary, flows into the Ugashik River from the left. The King Salmon River flows into Ugashik Bay immediately west of the Ugashik River.

Fish fauna

In late summer, the salmon migrate up the Ugashik River to their spawning grounds in the Ugashik Lakes . The most common of the five salmon species found in the river are silver salmon ( Oncorhynchus kisutchi ) and sockeye salmon ( Oncorhynchus nerka ).
