Ulf Wengård (born January 15, 1927 in Oppegård , Norway, † July 7, 2003 in Norway) was a Norwegian actor .

Career

Wengård grew up in his hometown Oppegård . His father was a cinema projectionist in his hometown, which brought him into contact with the field of film at an early age. He made his debut as a theater actor at the Studioteatret in the 1940s and was also active at the Ny Norsk Ballet . He studied jazz dance in the postwar period at the June Taylors Academy of Dance and at Fred Astaire's Ballroomskole in the United States . After this training he was engaged at Chat Noir and Folketeatret . From 1954 he worked as an actor in the Oslo Nye Teater , where he appeared in several hundred different roles in as many performances. This included his appearances in the play Sommer i Tyrol (Summer in Tyrol) and as Snoopy in the play The Peanuts , based on the comic series of the same name . In the 1960s he had his most successful appearances as Jamie in My Fair Lady . During this time, Wengård usually appeared in the theater together with the Norwegian actors Helge Reiss and Henki Kolstad . At a premiere performance he also had a joint appearance with the Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman , where he danced with her on stage, among other things. He had other important theater roles as Tim in the play "The Mission of Mathilde" ( På tokt med Mathilde ) and as the scarecrow ( Skremslet ) in The Wizard of Oz ( Trollmen from Oz ).

Wengård was a distinctive character actor in his day, always insisting on playing even the smallest supporting role alongside his main roles. At the Oslo Nye Teater his wishes were met, where he played a huge number of more or less important supporting roles. In his opinion, supporting roles are very often underestimated in terms of their artistic demands and characteristics and the small actors degenerate into worthless extras. According to his colleague Henki Kolstad , Wengård would only need one role with about ten lines to be just as successful as a small actor. As a direct consequence of his commitment in this direction, he was elected chairman of the Norsk Smårolleforbund (Norwegian Association of Small Actors ).

Through this quality Wengård came into contact with the Norwegian broadcaster NRK and its director at the time, Einar Førde . This opened up new fields of activity for Wengård, so he appeared on Norwegian children's television several times from the 1960s and played some characteristic roles there. He was particularly well known in the role of a postman ( postman ), with whom he had some appearances in various programs. In 1968 the nursery rhyme he sang on the Norwegian TV show : Det blir ikke hull i en tann som er ren ... (There is no hole in the tooth that is clean ...) became a hit, where he also played the role of postman or Postman appeared. Later he also appeared sporadically on Norwegian television, often in the role of the postman, including in the Christmas series Jul i Skomakergata from 1979. He also had some appearances in the Norwegian television program Tante Ragne , together with the television presenter Ragne Stab and also with the Norwegian actor Svein Byhring .

He was also a member of the press committee of the Holmenkoll race at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival for 40 years . For his voluntary work in press work for this festival, he received the ski foreningen honor plaque. In 1997 he received the Royal Order of Merit Kongens fortjenstmedalje in silver .

In film and television, where he was involved in many Norwegian productions, he became known as a film actor mainly through his appearances in comedies. He also played in fourteen films by the Norwegian Olsen Gang .
