The Munich - Starnberg railway line

On August 7, 1849, at the behest of the Bavarian King Max II, a " stock corporation for the purpose of building and operating a railway from Munich to Starnberg" was founded. Under the direction of building supervisor Ulrich Himbsel, who took out a private loan for this company, the railway line was built so that five years later, on November 24, 1854, the first train could run from Munich to Starnberg. In 1861 the Bavarian state bought the Eisenbahn-AG, which brought Himbsel's heirs a considerable profit.
