Ulrich Radtke

Ulrich Radtke (born May 12, 1955 in Werther (Westf.) ) Is a German geographer and since April 1, 2008 rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen .

Life

Education

After graduating from high school , Radtke studied biology , geography , history , philosophy and pedagogy at the University of Düsseldorf from 1974 to 1980 .

Scientific career

From 1980 on, Radtke worked as a research assistant at the Geographical Institute at the University of Düsseldorf . In the meantime , he did his doctorate in 1983 on the genesis and age determination of the marine terraces between Civitavecchia and Monte Argentario (Central Italy) with special attention to the electron spin resonance age determination method .

In 1988 he completed his habilitation at the University of Düsseldorf on the subject of marine terraces and the problem of sea level fluctuations - case studies from Chile, Argentina and Barbados . In 1992 Radtke took up a professorship at the Technical University of Karlsruhe for one year . In the following year he moved to Cologne University as a professor of physical geography . In 2013 he took over the professorship for "Global Change with a focus on transnational governance structures" at the University of Duisburg-Essen, of which he has been Rector since 2008.

Ulrich Radtke is in favor of abolishing the chair principle in order to protect the freedom of teaching and to end the precarious situation of researchers below a professorship in Germany too; He recommends the submission of the Junge Akademie Berlin Brandenburg .

He is married and has four kids.
