Ulrich Schmid (* 20th July 1626 in Urnäsch ; † 29. December 1682 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Urnäsch) was a Swiss mercenary , Landammann and Diet envoy from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Ulrich Schmid was the son of Hans Schmid, a mercenary leader who had died in Catalonia , and Anna Mettler. Schmid married Regina Meyer in 1655, daughter of Conrad Meyer. In 1665 he married Barbara Schiess (Scheuss), daughter of Hans Schiess, state witness.

Schmid was in French military service from around 1640 to 1650 and moved up to the rank of colonel . After that he was from about 1,654 community Captain of Urnäsch. From 1663 to 1665 he was provincial governor. Schmid officiated from 1665 to 1682 as Landammann of Ausserrhoder and delegate of the Diet. He campaigned for improvements in the defense system. In addition, he championed the interests of France in the military service and in 1681 belonged to the federal delegation at the reception of the French King Louis XIV. In Ensisheim ( Alsace ).
