Ulrich Wendland

Ulrich Wendland (born February 18, 1897 in Hohenkirch , Briesen district ; † August 12, 1957 in Lüneburg ) was a German archivist and historian . He was director of the state archives in Danzig and Berlin-Dahlem .

Life

Wendland was an officer . From 1925 to 1931 he studied at several German universities and received his doctorate from the University of Greifswald . Then he worked in the Prussian archive administration in Berlin. On May 1, 1934, Wendland moved to the State Archives of the Free City of Danzig , which was renamed “Reichsarchiv Danzig” during the Second World War in 1940. As the successor to Walther Recke , he became archive director in 1941. Two years later he was in charge of the escape . At the turn of the year 1944/1945 he moved to the archive in Berlin-Dahlem.

From 1945 to 1947, Wendland took over the management of the “ main archive for official files ” (since 1963 “Secret State Archive of Prussian Cultural Heritage”) in Dahlem. From 1952 until his death he can be proven as head of the Lüneburg City Archives .

Wendland published anti-political articles in daily newspapers and magazines.
