Ulrich von Nostitz (* 1500 ; † October 13, 1552 ) was a German legal scholar and governor of Upper Lusatia and owner of the manor Unworthiness . He played an important role in the Upper Lusatian Pönfall as an opponent of the Upper Lusatian Union of Six Cities .

Life

Ulrich von Nostitz is considered by historians and contemporaries to be one of the driving forces behind the Upper Lusatian Pönfall . When he entered the service of the Bohemian King Ferdinand I in 1538 , he made himself popular with him as an avid representative of Catholic and aristocratic interests. Like other Upper Lusatian nobles, he strove for an increase in his influence and his lands and wanted to break the domination of the six cities over the nobility in Upper Lusatia . Their approach in the Schmalkaldic War provided Ulrich von Nostitz with a favorable opportunity and he made further accusations against the cities. Many such accusations from the nobility led to the Upper Lusatian Pönfall, as a result of which the Six Cities lost many of their privileges and lands to the king and had to pay high fines. To enforce the punishments, Ferdinand I appointed von Nostitz as royal commissioner.

Ulrich von Nostitz acquired many of the confiscated goods as the Bohemian crown urgently needed money. So he came into the possession of the Hainewalde , Oberoderwitz , Großschweidnitz , Georgewitz , Bertsdorf , Kleinschweidnitz , Ruppersdorf and Wilka estates . 1546 he was appointed Amtshauptmann of Bautzen appointed. When he was appointed governor of Upper Lusatia in 1549 , he was given overall supervision over the six cities.

Ulrich von Nostitz died on October 13, 1552 and was buried in Ruppersdorf.
