Ulrike Toellner-Bauer

Ulrike Toellner-Bauer (born May 22, 1959 in Reutlingen ; † April 5, 2012 in Essen ) was a German nurse , specialist nurse for intensive and anesthetic care and university professor for nursing management .

Live and act

Ulrike Toellner-Bauer was born as the daughter of the medical historian Richard Toellner (1930–2019) and his wife Ingrid Toellner († 2002). She grew up with several sisters. In 1984 she passed a nursing examination at the nursing school of the Johanniter Sisterhood in Bonn. In 1989, she was qualified as a specialist nurse for intensive and anesthetic care, two years later Toellner-Bauer acquired the diploma as a teacher for nursing professions. She then studied sociology and educational sciences as well as German at the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn, with a focus on modern German literature. In 1999 she completed her master's degree. In her master's thesis, she dealt with a quality management concept for process-oriented patient care in acute hospitals. She dealt with the work on care management and quality management by Ruth Schröck and Adelheid von Stoesser .

From 1999 to 2001 Toellner-Bauer received a scholarship to qualify women for a university professorship in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in the field of hospital management. In this context, the doctorate to Dr. rer. pole. at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cologne . In her dissertation, too, she dealt with quality management at a university clinic, the so-called “Cologne model”. Communication problems between modern medicine and nursing were an important part of her work on quality management. Toellner-Bauer then became Deputy Nursing Director of the Clinic of the Philipps University of Marburg and at the same time took on a professorship for nursing management at the University of Applied Sciences in the German Red Cross in Göttingen, which was originally named after Clementine von Wallmenich . She then became a substitute professor at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences for nursing and worked with Christa Winter von Lersner, who had been trained at the Heidelberg University's sister school. In 2006 Toellner-Bauer became professor for applied nursing science at the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe in Bochum. In 2010 she was offered a position at the Münster University of Applied Sciences . The nursing scientist Hilde Steppe was an important source of ideas for Ulrike Toellner-Bauers. Ms. Toellner-Bauer was a member of the German Society for Specialized Nursing and Functional Services .

Ulrike Toellner-Bauer found her final resting place in the cemetery of the Amelungsborn monastery . Amelungsborn Monastery was the retirement home of her father Richard Toellner.
