The Ultner Hochwart or simply Hochwart ( Italian Vedetta Alta , the name extension Ultner serves to differentiate between mountains with the same name) is a 2627  m slm high mountain in the Ilmenkamm of the Ortler Alps .

Location and surroundings

The Hochwart is located in South Tyrol ( Italy ) and separates the northern municipality of Ulten in Ultental from the southeastern Proveis on Deutschnonsberg . With its soaring, rocky summit, it is one of the most striking in the entire ridge, which runs from southwest to northeast, and is therefore clearly visible from the Adige Valley . The northeast ridge connects the Hochwart with the Schöngrubspitze ( 2459  m ) via an intermediate summit, the southwest ridge leads, again via an intermediate summit, to the Reatspitz ( 2568  m ). The north-west and south-east ridge descend steeply into the valley.

Climbs

From the Zoggler reservoir in Ulten, the Hochwart can be reached via a very steep, 1,500-meter-high path, which finally leads over Blockwerk to the southwest ridge and on to the summit. A path also leads up the southwest ridge from the Kesselalm north of Proveis . Another ascent to the summit is on the northeast ridge and is partially secured with chains. The northeast ridge can be reached either from Ulten via the Walschgrubenalm or from the Nonstal side via the Schöngrubspitze.
