Heinz Baumueller

Heinz Baumüller (born August 19, 1950 in Kollerschlag ) is an Austrian sculptor , graphic artist and action artist who lives and works in Düsseldorf .

Live and act

Baumüller completed a typesetter apprenticeship from 1966 to 1970 .

From 1972 to 1977 he studied commercial graphics with Erich Buchegger at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz , then until 1980 sculpture with Erwin Reiter .

In 1977/78 he was Bernhard Luginbühl's assistant at Forum Metall in Linz and then in Switzerland. Through this he met Jean Tinguely , whom he assisted in France. He pursued further studies in sculpture at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and was assistant to Klaus Rinke (1981/82). He also worked there with Joseph Beuys and Johannes Stüttgen .

After a long time in 1979 in Aktion Nike for the whereabouts of the sculpture Nike by the artist and architect group Haus-Rucker-Co in a future-oriented action - there have been such things since then - with letters of protest from artists and art brokers of international standing on the main square (Linz) against He had fought the demolition plans of the city fathers, but could not prevent the dismantling on November 22, 1979, just before midnight and from then on he was exposed to permanent reprisals by the Linz police, he emigrated to Germany in January 1981. There he became assistant to Klaus Rinke (1981/82) at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and, because of the residence permit required at the time, he did a second study of sculpture as a master student .

At the end of his stay at the academy, he won the national competition of the German art academies in 1984 with his woodwork "Tunnel", a sculpture that was highly praised by many academy professors and other art experts, which he sawed up together with Joseph Beuys after a correction and then when he built two out of it the resulting Beuys sculptures. Wet Laundry - Jungfrau II and Wet Laundry - Jungfrau III (1985). Long before that, he had already worked for Joseph Beuys and Johannes Stüttgen in the FIU, the Free International University , an autonomous university in room 3 of the building of the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf .

Since 1986 he runs with his brothers Wolfgang and Werner , the Werkstatt Kollerschlag GmbH for the production of large-format works of art in all desired materials. In 1999/2000 he was visiting professor at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz .

From 1988 to 1992 he ran for the office of Austrian Federal President after an exchange of letters with the incumbent Federal President Kurt Waldheim , but withdrew this candidacy shortly before the election after Robert Jungk had been nominated by the Greens as a candidate for election as Federal President and sat down for this in the context of several exhibitions and actions.
